Gender affirming therapy helps you do 4 things:

  • Helps you figure out root causes of your dysphoria (and/or euphoria).

  • Provides a safe space for you to learn about and explore what resources are available to you to help you live in a gender congruent way.

  • Learn tools to deal with every day anxiety and depression so you can function in your day to day life.

  • Supports you in building a healthy community and social support system.

I’ll help through this process, tailoring each step to your unique needs and circumstances. My approach to gender affirming care comes from a place of hope and compassion: I believe there is no right or wrong way to “do” gender and everyone’s journey is different. My goal is to help you find what works for YOU rather than listening to all of the gender norms you no doubt hear on a regular basis.

Common questions about gender affirming therapy

  • Yes! Not only do I provide regular mental health therapy, I also provide written referrals for those needing them. I have extensive experience writing referrals for HRT and surgery. I have experience working with a variety of medical providers including Sanford Plastic Surgery, Sanford Endocrinology, and University of Iowa LGBTQ Clinic just to name a few.

  • Gender therapy may vary depending on what you need that day. If you are feel anxious, we might tackle that first to help you get the tools you need. If you are wanting to transition but have no idea where to start, I am happy to be a guide and help you explore what pieces fit for you and help you find resources. Or if you’re just needing a safe space to vent, I got you. Each session is tailored to you and what you need at that time. Whether that’s gender related challenges or general mental health support. Gender Therapy is just like other forms of mental health therapy, except you can rest easy knowing your therapist understands how gender affects your day to day life and overall wellbeing.
